Tucson is a great place to live for so many reasons! The weather is perfect for outdoor activities all year round, there’s always something fun happening Downtown, and the community is incredibly friendly and welcoming. You’ll never get bored living in Tucson, and you’ll always feel right at home thanks to the warm and welcoming community. In addition to the stunning views of the mountains and desert landscape, we feel lucky to call Tucson home! This city has so much to offer residents, from its vibrant culture and diverse community to its incredible natural beauty. There’s simply nowhere else we would rather live!

What if you’re looking to escape for a weekend? There are plenty of charming places within driving distance that offer new sights and activities. If you’re looking for a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of daily life, why not spend a weekend in one of these delightful spots? You’ll be able to explore new places and try new things, all while being close to home.

1. Phoenix, AZ

Venture to the city of Phoenix for a metropolitan experience, situated just a two-hour drive away. If you’re looking for a night out on the town, Phoenix has plenty to offer. You can catch a live comedy show or hit up one of the many dance clubs in downtown Phoenix. Or, if you’re more interested in craft beer, Old Town Scottsdale has a great selection of bars and breweries. No matter what your preference is, you’re sure to find something to suit your needs.

Shoppers will also have a blast browsing through the upscale shopping areas or the myriad of small shops and boutiques. Sports fans of all ages take pleasure in cheering for the teams they love. Phoenix is the home to professional sports squads in four major categories – football, baseball, hockey, and basketball.

2. Las Cruces, NM

There are two places you simply must visit while you’re in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Start by visiting the White Sands National Monument – a desert of 275 square miles with its rare white gypsum sand forming undulating dunes. The area is home to unique and beautiful wildlife, and visitors can enjoy activities like hiking, picnicking, and camping. Next on your list should be the city’s historic Old Town district, which is full of charming adobe buildings housing shops, restaurants, and galleries. Exploring the dunes is possible on foot, by bike, or even in a vehicle.

The Farmers & Crafts Market of Las Cruces, which is over 40 years old and offers more than 300 vendors, is worth a visit on your way home. There you can taste the freshest food while browsing through the selection of ceramics, pottery, leather goods, jewelry, and much more.

3. Lake Havasu City, AZ

If your family enjoys spending time outdoors and participating in water sports, you should definitely visit Lake Havasu City. This beautiful location is perfect for swimming, fishing, boating, and so much more. Plus, the scenery is absolutely stunning. Your family will love spending time here exploring all that Lake Havasu City has to offer. The journey from Tucson to the destination will take approximately five hours, but the experience is sure to be worth it! The whole family will have a great time engaging in activities or simply soaking up some sun.

The Parker Dam, built on the Colorado River, created Lake Havasu. The lake is 45 miles long and surrounded by sand dunes, canyons, mountains, and basins at the foot of California’s Chemehuevi Mountains. The most distinctive thing about Lake Havasu City is the London Bridge, which was moved from England to this location in 1967.

4. El Paso, TX

In just over four hours, you can be in El Paso, Texas. It’s a wonderful place for family fun. You can find reasonable prices for hotels and activities.

Proud of its local artists, El Paso has many art galleries that showcase traditional and contemporary art. Make sure to go by the Encaustic International Art Studio & Gallery where the entire family can learn something new while exploring the painting method which utilizes heated beeswax mixed with pigments of color.

Visitors can also take their family to the El Paso Zoo or to the Adventure Zone, where they can enjoy a go-cart ride or arrange an exciting game of paintball.

5. Flagstaff, AZ

The drive from Tucson to Flagstaff is almost four hours long. The journey takes you through some of the most stunning scenery in Arizona, including the tall saguaro cacti of Saguaro National Park and the red rocks of Sedona. This destination, which is not far from Sedona, is ideal for a winter playground. Skiing and winter sports aficionados consider the Arizona Snowbowl to be the best spot for these activities in Arizona. It offers a variety of different trails and slopes for skiers of all levels, as well as other winter activities such as snowshoeing and tubing.

From a location high in the Arizona mountains, Flagstaff winters are decorated with fresh snow powder, sunny skies, and breathtaking views. The snow-capped mountains and evergreen trees make for a picturesque setting, and the crisp air is invigorating. 6. Sedona, AZ

Sedona is a great destination for anyone looking to immerse themselves in natural beauty similar to that of the Grand Canyon. It’s about 3.5 hours from Tucson, making it the perfect day trip or weekend getaway. No matter how long you stay, you’re sure to be amazed by Sedona’s stunning red rocks and breathtaking views. Sedona is a small town located in the middle of 1.8 million acres of national forest land. The town is home to many red rock trails and stone formations, as well as hidden canyons and authentic Mexican village recreations. Visitors can enjoy hiking, exploring, and learning about the history and culture of the area. After a long day of exploring Sedona’s red rocks, end your day in one of the town’s many great restaurants. You’ll find everything from vegetarian options to hearty steak dishes to spicy Southwestern cuisine. So whether you’re looking for a quick bite or a leisurely meal, you’re sure to find something to your taste.
